“Make Your MESS–Your MESSAGE” is the title of my new book, which will be released very soon. It’s about taking those stumbling blocks in your life and turning them into stepping stones. It’s about making your TESTS–your TEST-imonies.
That’s what my 19-year-old daughter is doing.
She is dismissing the odds that have been stacked against her as a teenage mom and is defiant in her efforts to fulfill the goals and dreams she had before she found herself pregnant at the age of 16.
What started out as a complete mess, filled with a lot of hurt and anger, is slowly turning into a valuable life lesson—not only for her— but for me as well.
Today, my daughter is a rising freshman at North Carolina A&T University while I take on the role of primary caregiver for her two-year-old son. No, I am not doing it by choice. I am helping her clean up her mess in the best way I know how by pitching in to support her goals and dreams.
And I must admit—so far, she’s doing a good job. After her first semester she’s made the Dean’s List and seems to be more focused than ever.
Meanwhile, there’s a little boy who is making us all realize what it means when someone says “there’s a blessing in every storm.”

Beverly,
I agree with Debbie! Love the blog. Love the book – especially the topic and the cover. I cannot wait to get my autographed copy and read it cover to cover.
Thanks for sharing this much needed message with the world.
